Europe should reclaim digital sovereignty by consciously choosing and developing European alternatives to US Big Tech. Our continent has the talent, the research institutions, the infrastructure, and the entrepreneurial capacity to build secure, innovative, and competitive IT solutions that align with European values such as privacy, transparency, and democratic accountability. Over-reliance on non-European technology providers creates strategic vulnerabilities, limits policy autonomy, and exports both economic value and control beyond our borders. By strengthening and adopting European technologies, we invest in local ecosystems, retain knowledge and data within Europe, and ensure that critical digital infrastructure remains under European governance. Digital independence is not about isolation, but about balance: Europe can and should cooperate globally, while being fully capable of managing its own digital future.
